Sawan in Kashi

The holiest month for Lord Shiva's devotees

Article

The lunar month of Sawan (Shravan, July–August) is the most sacred to Lord Shiva. Kashi turns into a sea of saffron-clad Kanwariyas carrying Ganga water to abhishek the Jyotirlinga.

Sawan Somvar

Each Monday of Sawan sees lakhs of devotees queue at Vishwanath. Plan VIP darshan via Suvidha tickets to avoid 6–8 hour waits.

Kanwar Yatra

Devotees walk barefoot from various points to fetch Ganga water and pour it on the Shivling. The streets pulse with "Bol Bam" chants.

Special Pujas

Sawan Rudrabhishek, Mahamrityunjaya Jaap and Bilvashtak archana give multiplied benefits this month.

If you visit during Sawan, expect crowds, divine energy and unforgettable bhakti. Book accommodation 2 months in advance.
